How To Deal With Baby Monitors In Apartments
If you live in an apartment or condominium, you may find that you often pick up the frequency of your neighbor's telephone if it is cordless as well as their baby monitor. You may hear their baby monitor transmitter over your receiver. This can be not only troublesome, but annoying.
Baby monitors work on radio frequencies. They are very similar to cordless phones. Anyone who lives in an apartment or condominium knows how easy it is to pick up the conversation from your neighbor on a cordless phone. You simply have to change frequencies to get a better connection. In some cases, you have to actually hang up the phone to stop this from happening.
It is not only in apartments where baby monitors can interfere with one another. You can pick them up from blocks away even if you live in a single family residence. Anything operating on a frequency has the potential to do this.
If you are constantly troubled by your neighbor's baby monitor frequency interfering with your own, here are some helpful hints:
Change the frequency on your transmitter and receiver
Chances are that your transmitter has a gage that can be used to change the frequency. When you hear your neighbor's child on your receiver, change the frequency on your receiver and your transmitter so that you are on a different wavelength. As baby monitors have gotten to be more sophisticated, they have longer range. This can be a good or bad thing as you can now pick up conversations and other people's monitors from miles away.
Keep Other Wireless Objects Away From The Transmitter
You might find that your baby monitor is actually interfering with your own wireless gadgets. To avoid this, keep the transmitter and receiver away from your computer, laptop, cordless phone or other gadgets that might be operating on a wireless frequency.
Unplug the Monitor Then Plug It Back In
As with the cordless phone, sometimes just unplugging it and plugging it back into the AC socket is the answer. This can stop the interference you are currently experiencing. The same truth holds for a cordless phone. You can also turn the device off and then turn it on again which should alter the frequency.
Tell Your Neighbor
If you are repeatedly picking up signals from the baby monitors of your neighbors, tell them. Tell them that you often hear their conversations over your baby monitor and advise them to change their frequencies. Chances are that as annoying as it is to pick up other people's conversations to you, it is twice as horrifying for them to have their privacy compromised by their baby monitor. If you know whose baby monitor you are picking up, tell them so that they change their frequency.
Baby monitors can be a great way to monitor the activities of your baby and keep him or her safe. They should not, however, be a way to monitor the activities of your neighbors. If you live in an apartment or condo and are experiencing interference due to multiple baby monitors, try some of the above tips to eliminate the problem and make the baby monitors work properly for you.
